Overview
ABB OptiFact™ is a modular software platform designed to extract and generate business value by collecting, managing and analyzing data in production facilities. This initiative involved creating a responsive portfolio of seven products, each addressing distinct and complex challenges in Internet of Things-connected factories across various industries globally.
My roles
As the UX lead, my responsibilities included not only creating but also prioritizing the design vision across the seven digital products in collaboration with product owners. This effort resulted in a cohesive and harmonized portfolio. I worked within a collaborative team, overseeing several designers and coordinating with four distinct developer teams located globally.
Problem
Industry 4.0, often referred to as the fourth industrial revolution, brings about a transformative shift in the manufacturing and industrial sector by integrating advanced technologies. The challenge was to visualize and manage all newly integrated data seamlessly, ensuring user-friendly access for individuals around production facilities globally.
Outcome
The portfolio comprises seven distinct products, empowering users to construct personalized dashboards and organize data efficiently using intuitive labeling and modeling tools. These products serve as aids, enabling users to showcase key performance indicators tailored to their unique requirements and production processes.
Accomplishments
As UX lead, I led initiatives for increased efficiency, innovation and competitiveness in manufacturing sectors through advanced technology integration. This unlocked new possibilities for process optimization, improved product quality and more responsive solutions to market demands for ABB's customers.
Additionally, I led the creation of the portfolio's new design system, implementing atomic design principles. This strategic approach resulted in enhanced consistency and improved components across code, design and functionality.
Conducted successful user research which involved holding workshops, interviews, wireframes, user journeys, and user flows using Figma and Miro.
Delivered high-fidelity prototypes to development teams, aligning them with identified business opportunities that adhered to the ABB design system.
Transformed the way of working within the design and development teams globally, transitioning to a more agile approach. This resulted in a significantly more efficient process.
